Alpha Delta Pi

International History

Founded on May 15, 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is the FIRST secret society for college women. Founded at Wesleyan College in Macon Georgia, our history dates go back over 150 years. 
 

First known as the Adelphean Society, our organization was made possible by one young girl's dream and the assistance of her 5 dearest friends, also known as our founders, Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, Octavia Andrew Rush, Ella Pierce Turner, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, Mary Evans Glass, and Sophronia Woodruff Dews. Together these women developed the ritual, oath, and diamond-shaped badge that we still recognize today.
 

Alpha Delta Pi was founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, service, social, and sisterhood. These principles still guide the policies and programs of the sorority today. 

 

Today ADPi has initiated more than 215,000 
women, many of whom are actively involved in 
one of our over 134 collegiate chapters or 150 alumnae associations throughout the United States and Canada.

Our Executive Office and Memorial Headquarters is

currently located in Atlanta, Georgia.
